Park Wildlife: Hit the trails with national park field guide app

With summer in its full, sweltering swing, there's no better time to hit the trails for hiking, biking and other outdoor fun. Thanks to the National Parks Conservation Association, you can stay informed about the plant and wildlife in national parks through your smartphone — including finding out what may be potentially dangerous in the park. The Park Wildlife app works only when connected to the Internet, so it may not replace a traditional field guide, but it will be helpful for those who don't wander quite so far off the beaten path. It also has historical information about the parks, making it a useful teaching guide. The app is not optimized for the iPad, so the guide will be best on the iPhone or iPod Touch. Free, for iOS devices.
